✶ Career Coaching & Mentorship ✶
Why I Do What I Do ~
I came into career coaching through a nonlinear path, shaped by community work, creative projects, and exploring whatever felt interesting at the time. At the core of all my experiences, I’ve always known I love to mentor, guide, and teach.
In college, I led Spark Magazine as Editor in Chief, which solidified this passion and showed me how much I enjoy helping people feel confident in what they’re making and where they’re headed. Outside of that, I’ve always been a slashie. I’ve written for magazines, developed a passion for curating vintage, thrown pop ups and benefit shows — doing things that felt exciting, engaging, and creatively fulfilling. That way of working still shows up in my life now, through DJing, playing in bands, and producing events professionally. My variety of experiences and ambitious nature have helped me understand my strengths and what kinds of roles make sense for my personality and values.
After graduating, I started in marketing at a book publishing agency, then shifted into PR. I missed the community and connection of human-centered work, so then swiftly moved into event production and industry relations. These moves helped me realize how flexible and transferable skills can be. I had mentors across creative and non-creative industries who helped me recognize that being a creative generalist isn’t something to outgrow — it’s a real asset. They also taught me the value of genuine networking, far from the awkward, robotic outreach a lot of the general career advice I’d been given boasts. Through this, I’ve found life coaches, mentors, and role models I still turn to as I enter the middle of my career.
Even with a beefed-up resume, countless job rejections and unresponsiveness to cold emails made me feel underprepared for the post-grad job market. I thought I had a handle on things, and in many ways I did, but what I learned through the silence and rejection was how much strategy and clarity matter. Once I started approaching job applications more intentionally and showed up more like myself, things started clicking. I humbled myself by learning about people with projects and skills I was interested in, simply for the sake of knowing, not just for job leads. I used my years of writing experience to bring out my unique voice and stories across my portfolio, cover letters, and outreach emails. I continued to let rejection strengthen my path while also giving myself the grace to reflect and sit with truthfully, how hard it can be to land a job in the digital age.
A main focus of my career coaching is helping people build confidence in their unique personal stories beyond just professional growth. I work with them to find strength in their individual paths and to become stronger writers and storytellers. Through this, we learned to communicate authentically and genuinely, through our careers, but overall in life.
That’s exactly what I get to do now in my role at UT’s School of Design and Creative Technologies, where I work with students exploring what’s next, building confidence, and telling their stories in ways that feel honest and real. I love this work and I’m super excited to keep expanding it to support more people beyond college as we navigate the weird, unpredictable process of building careers that fit who we are and the kind of lives we want to build.
